I would like the ABS to work collaboratively with Australia's peak LGBTQIA+ bodies to design questions that accurately detail the LGBTQIA+ community of Australia, especially alongside the data it already collects.

This data would help LGBTQIA+ organisations understand where their communities are across Australia to deliver services relevant to them. It would also help organisations with achieving grant funding by being able to identify how many people could be covered under various LGBTQIA+ health and support programs.

This was a campaign leading up to the 2021 census to include the LGBTQIA+ community by a significant number of peak bodies. I hope the ABS will listen this time around and understand its importance for our community.
