Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Survey Workshops

Closed 6 Dec 2019

Opened 24 Oct 2019

Overview

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) is holding a series of face-to-face workshops in late 2019 to help shape an upcoming ABS health survey.

The ABS would like to talk with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and other key stakeholders about:

  • Content for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander surveys,
  • Biomedical tests and ethics,
  • Data integration - getting the most out of data.

We want to hear about your data needs, including how it should be collected to help make the survey culturally appropriate and successful.

The survey will:

  • Provide a picture of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' health and wellbeing
  • Inform policy, services and programs to help people live healthier and happier lives
  • Include questions on health status and conditions, health related actions, physical measures, health risk factors, nutrition and physical activity, social and cultural topics

The first round of workshops in 2019 will be held in NSW and the ACT, with workshops in other urban, regional and remote locations planned for early 2020. Participants will be invited to nominate priority areas for discussion in workshop sessions.
