1. Council is very supportive of continuation of the Census as the information is essential for councils to undertake forward planning.
2. Council would like to see the addition of questions around temporal population such as whether individuals own multiple properties, and if so, where they are located, how much of the year is spent in these properties (if at all) and whether the individuals intend to retire to these locations.
3. Also a question about whether respondents undertake short-term letting of part or all of their property (or properties) & number of nights per year.

Assessment Criteria 1
1.
This topic is of current national importance.
National Importance
The data would support policy making and infrastructure planning. Shoalhaven, as with a number of coastal and regional areas, has a fluctuating population due to tourism and a high level of absentee ownership. Shoalhaven, as with much of the country, has an aging population which will be intensified if a large number of retirees move into the area to occupy the currently unoccupied dwellings and increase pressure on limited services. Also, the increasing number of people engaging in short-term letting is having impacts on local communities; being able to quantify the level of this activity will enable policy development to these manage impacts
