Local governments have a responsibility to ensure there is an appropriate number, mix and diversity of dwellings to suit a range of resident needs.
In order to target housing policy most effectively, it would be useful to know whether people paying a mortgage are paying off their own owner occupier home, or paying off an investment property.
It would also be useful to know the mix of ownership within the local government area - ie whether a small number of people own the majority of housing in an area, or whether each dwelling is owned by a different entity. This can influence the way local government promotes housing choices and sustainability initiatives.
