Assessment Criteria 1

1. This topic is of current national importance.

National Importance
It would be useful for age-related data to be provided in both individual years and in age cohorts that are reflective of life stages. In particular, for children’s ages, service providers would find it useful for the data to reflect school ages as this would assist with planning for both childcare centres and schools. The suggested age breakdown for children is: 0-5 years, 5-12 years, 12-18 years.

Assessment Criteria 2

2. There is a need for data from a Census of the whole population.

For whole population
Child care centres, preschools and schools need to be provided locally across Australia.

Assessment Criteria 3

3. The topic can be accurately collected in a form which the household completes themselves.

Easy to answer
It is considered that it would be easy to collect this data via the Census.

Assessment Criteria 4

4. The topic would be acceptable to Census respondents.

Acceptable
The topic is not likely to be considered intrusive, offensive or controversial.

Assessment Criteria 5

5. The topic can be collected efficiently.

Collected efficiently
It is assumed that the data would be relatively easy to collect and process.

Assessment Criteria 6

6. There is likely to be a continuing need for data on this topic in the following Census.

Continuing need
There is a need for time series data on this topic and it is likely to remain relevant in the future.

Assessment Criteria 7

7. There are no other alternative data sources or solutions that could meet the topic need.

No alternatives
It is unlikely that comprehensive, continuous, spatially based data on this topic is collected via other sources.
