Assessment Criteria 1

1. This topic is of current national importance.

National Importance
Manningham Council supports inclusion of topics that have been raised in previous stakeholder consultation, such as ride share and car share. With ride share services becoming increasingly popular, it could be considered its own mode.

'Method of travel to work' could be expanded to include 'Method of travel to education', with ride sharing incorporated as an option for selection in both topics.

Assessment Criteria 2

2. There is a need for data from a Census of the whole population.

For whole population
In the 'Method of travel to work' topic, inclusion of a option to select how long a journey takes will demonstrate the areas where people are required to travel some distance to access employment.

In the 'How many registered motor vehicles owned or used' topic, the addition of an option to select a car sharing service will help to demonstrate specific areas where people are opting not to own a vehicle/s.

Assessment Criteria 3

3. The topic can be accurately collected in a form which the household completes themselves.

Easy to answer
Updating the Method of travel to work' and 'How many registered motor vehicles owned or used' topics to incorporate reference to ride sharing as an option should be a simple exercise, with the majority of respondents being aware of car sharing options, such as Uber.

Assessment Criteria 4

4. The topic would be acceptable to Census respondents.

Acceptable
The minor amendments recommended through this submission to the transport topics in the Census are not offensive or controversial and repondents are likely to answer accurately.

Assessment Criteria 5

5. The topic can be collected efficiently.

Collected efficiently
The suggested changes to the 'Method of travel to work' and How many registered motor vehicles owned or used' topics are not onerous and should not require additional resources or multiple choice options.

Assessment Criteria 6

6. There is likely to be a continuing need for data on this topic in the following Census.

Continuing need
Ride sharing is likely to become more popular and more widely used in the future, so will remain a very relevant topic.

Assessment Criteria 7

7. There are no other alternative data sources or solutions that could meet the topic need.

No alternatives
Council is not aware of other data that is currently available on this topic, combined with travel to work or travel to education topics.
