Data would help understand commitment to charitable causes, with a question on charitable donations.
Vital for non profit groups, for government social policy groups.

For whole population
The value of asking about charitable donations would help to understand commitment to charitable social causes apart from unpaid work.

The simple question would be: "In the last twelve months, have you made a financial donation to a non profit charitable group?"
It is important to note this should be different to a question on donations to a religious affiliation group
