What is your submission about?

Please provide a brief summary of your submission

Topic name
The Lismore Significant Urban Area (SUA) should be expanded to include the Urban Areas of Wollongbar and Alstonville, in the Ballina LGA. This meets the following design criteria of an SUA: 'The SA2s included in the SUA should contain related Urban Centres that are less than 5 km apart'. The eastern extremity of Goonellabah (part of Lismore Urban Area) and the western extremity of Wollongbar are less than 5 km apart. Wollongbar and Alstonville are 1 km apart. Similar examples are the current boundaries of Coffs Harbour SUA and Bowral-Mittagong SUA. Generally it seems that an SUA is contained within one LGA and does not cross LGA boundaries. However one exception is the Newcastle-Maitland SUA which includes areas from multiple LGAs including Maitland, Cessnock, Newcastle and Lake Macquarie LGAs. Due to the population density of the Richmond River Valley, I suggest the Lismore SUA should be treated in the same manner as the Newcastle-Maitland SUA.

For whole population
This submission is not proposing that new content be collected, just a change to the ASGS Significant Urban Areas, Urban Centres and Localities, Section of State classification to facilitate the use of small area information from Census data products.
