Please provide a brief summary of your submission

Topic name

Assessment Criteria 1

1. This topic is of current national importance.

National Importance
Power two wheelers are recognised not just as a means of recreation, but have significant utility for efficient transport of singles and couples, and for business, small deliveries. Food deliveries have exploded in recent time and increasingly smaller capacity motorcycles are used because they are not just cheap, they are highly efficient.

It is probably true to say that many motorcycle trips remove four wheel vehicles from the streets and from parking, reducing congestion, and of course emissions, with less damage to road infrastructure.

Understanding where PTW’s are and how they are used, and changes in that use over time in response to either environmental changes eg congestion, the price of petrol etc, or government (at what ever level) policy initiatives would lead to better decisions regarding transport.

Assessment Criteria 2

2. There is a need for data from a Census of the whole population.

For whole population
The critical data will be from adults in the workforce. Recreational riding is not much help, although accident data could prove useful with regard to preventative measures.

Assessment Criteria 3

3. The topic can be accurately collected in a form which the household completes themselves.

Easy to answer
Collecting PTW data as to ownership location and use should be very straightforward

Assessment Criteria 4

4. The topic would be acceptable to Census respondents.

Acceptable
I can think of no possible objections to collecting data on PTW ownership and use.

Assessment Criteria 5

5. The topic can be collected efficiently.

Collected efficiently
I cannot see any complexity

Assessment Criteria 6

6. There is likely to be a continuing need for data on this topic in the following Census.

Continuing need
This will remain relevant into the future.

Assessment Criteria 7

7. There are no other alternative data sources or solutions that could meet the topic need.

No alternatives
I am unaware of any alternative data sources.
